Stroma Certification's Commercial Electrical scheme provides certification to electricians to allow the verification of compliant installation, maintenance and testing of commercial jobs. Commercial electrical installation work is not covered under Part P of the Building Regulations and is therefore non-notifiable to Building Control. Certification under our commercial scheme will confirm your compliance with the relevant standards (e.g. BS 7671) allowing you to be independently verified and gain more credibility with customers.

Certification for commercial electrical work will assess an electrical contractor against the requirements of the IET Electrotechnical Assessment Specification. Electricians are approved to undertake the construction, maintenance, design, verification and/or inspection and testing of electrical installations up to 1kV in a building other than a dwelling. The majority of electricians tend to be certified to undertake Part P/domestic installation only, but a number also work in commercial properties. Certification for commercial electrical jobs allows an electrician to expand the type of work for which you can contract.
Commercial premises are usually much more complex than a domestic property. As well as being mindful of the electrics and wiring, an electrical contractor will have to work with and around heating, cooling and ventilation systems (amongst others). This requires an advanced level of skill and competence.
You can apply for Commercial Electrical Certification online from the Stroma Certification website, or speak to one of our friendly customer advisors. You can also download our members pack. This includes information about commercial, as well as our other electrical schemes for Domestic/Part P, EICRs, PAT Testing and Third Party Inspection.

There are three elements to the assessment for a commercial electrician.
The office assessment is a desk based check on qualifications, policies and procedures, including:
The technical questioning will concern the electrical industry as a whole. These questions will be comfortable for a professional electrician to answer.
The on site assessment will look specifically at a commercial installation. You will be asked to present some examples of commercial installation work that have been installed within the last 12 months.
