Why extend your scope to include Third Party Electrical?

Third Party Certification for electrical work was approved by DCLG in 2013. As an approved provider of the scheme, Stroma Certification certifies our members to act as a third party certifier. It is a legal requirement for domestic electrical installations to be carried out in compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations. Whilst many electricians are certified members of a Competent Person for Part P work, Third Party Electrical Certification allows your business to offer deliver a more diverse service than some of your competitors.

Responsibilities of a Third Party Inspector

In order to carry out a third party inspection in a compliant manner, you must be in attendance to witness the work done at the 1st fix and 2nd fix stages of the installation. You must have witnessed the installation work and have confidence that it is both safe and installed to the required standard. You must then complete a Stroma Third Party Certificate and send this to Stroma Certification prior to making a third party notification.

Why is it important to be a certified Third Party Electrician?

Third Party Electrical Certification isn't just about winning more work for your business. Stroma Certification understands that one of the most important issues for our members is upholding professional installation standards within your industry. Electricians who are certified for third party hold that responsibility in their own hands. The ability to act as a Third Party certifier means that Stroma-certified electricians are directly involved in ensuring that standards of competence and professionalism in the electrical industry always meet the expected level.

Third Party Electrical Assessments

To become certified as a Third Party Inspector, you must have undergone the assessment process for our Part P (Domestic) scheme:

  • An office assessment
  • Technical questions
  • An on site assessment

The office assessment is a desk based check on qualifications, policies and procedures, including:

  • Qualifications
  • Insurance and calibration certificates
  • Commissioning records
  • Complaints procedure and logs
  • Health & Safety policies and risk assessments

The technical questioning will concern the electrical industry as a whole. These questions will be comfortable for a professional electrician to answer.
