A leading certification body

Stroma Certification is committed to providing great value, high-quality schemes for electricians. We are recognised in the industry as a government-approved brand and an established certification body. Our Competent Person Scheme ensures the delivery of competent electricians into the industry, who are completing installations, tests and assessments in compliance with the Building Regulations.

UKAS accredited schemes

Part P (Domestic)

Our UKAS accredited Competent Person Scheme (CPS) provides certification for a number of measures which cover a range of different trades. Part P and domestic electrical installation is one of these. Within the Building Regulations 2013 it suggests that electrical installation and maintenance should be of a recognised standard to avoid injury to members of the public. It is a homeowner’s right and responsibility to ensure that a competent electrician is carrying out work in line with the Part P Building Regulations. Your Stroma Certification CPS membership proves your competence to your customers.

Electricians who are members of a DCLG authorised Competent Person Scheme can also self-certify their work as compliant. This means that by hiring a Stroma-certified electrician, a homeowner has the peace of mind that the work will meet the requirements of the Building Regulations.

Our Competent Person Scheme holds UKAS accreditation under ISO/IEC 17065:2012.

Stroma Approved schemes

We also provide certification for other strands of electrical work which do not require formal UKAS accreditation. These other schemes can be added to your Part P membership without increasing the annual fee of £240 (+VAT).

Certification for Electricians

Commercial electrical work

Stroma members can advertise as a commercial electrician by providing proof of your previous experience. We ask to see previous installation examples because commercial work is usually much more complicated than domestic work – there are competing facilities to consider such as heating and ventilation systems. This experience might include any work done on outdoor lighting, CCTV or alarm systems.

electrical installation conditioning reports

Electrical installation conditioning reports are recommended every 10 years or in the event that a customer moves into a new property, requires insurance or is applying for a mortgage.

You can be certified to produce the conditioning report as part of your Stroma membership as they can only be undertaken by qualified electricians. It is the responsibility of the electrician to identify potential dangers, damage or degradation in the installation. This is an important issue as faulty wiring is one of the main causes of domestic fires in the UK.

When joining Stroma Certification, electricians are provided with our E-Cert electrical certificate software for free. Using our software you can collect installation data digitally on site, and then produce a PDF conditioning report on your desktop computer back at the office.

PAT Testing

PAT Testing comes under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Electricians who want to add this certification to your membership need to provide proof of competence to the Electrical Equipment Maintenance and Testing qualification 2377 (City and Guilds 2377-32 & City and Guilds 2377-22).

Certified PAT Testers are able to check the safe operation of portable appliances including kettles, cookers and storage heaters.

Third Party Certification

Stroma Certification is one of the only UK certification bodies to be authorised by DCLG to operate a Domestic Electrical Installation Third Party scheme. This strand of certification allows an electrician to check the work of another Competent Person and verify a domestic installation as compliant.

Stroma is DCLG authorised to operate this scheme under the Building Regulations 2010.
