Rent Smart Wales Training

Authorised Landlord and Agent training courses

Rent Smart Wales is a compulsory licensing and registration system for landlords and agents working in the Welsh Private Rental Sector. Stroma Certification is an authorised Provider of Rent Smart Wales training for Landlord & Agent courses.

The Housing (Wales) Act 2014 has dictated new legal obligations on landlords and agents involved in the Private Rental Sector in Wales. It requires these individuals to be licensed through Rent Smart Wales. Stroma Certification is an authorised training provider of a combined Landlord & Agent training course.

How does Rent Smart Wales affect Landlords?

Any landlord who owns a rental property in Wales must be registered with Rent Smart Wales if the property is rented on an assured, assured shorthold or regulated tenancy. If the landlord also undertakes letting and management tasks for their rental property (self-managing), then they should also apply for a Rent Smart Wales license.

If the landlord is not involved in setting up tenancies and managing the rental property they must still register, but should name a licensed agent on their application.

How does Rent Smart Wales affect Rental Agents?

In order to act as a Rental Agent in Wales, an individual or company must obtain a license under Rent Smart Wales. The new requirement ensures that people and companies who undertake letting and management activities on behalf of landlords are appropriately trained and suitable.

The licence applies to the individual rather than the company so all employees must complete an approved agent training course.

Compulsory registration deadline

The Housing (Wales) Act 2014 has dictated a deadline of 23 November 2016 for all active landlords and agents to gain compliance and complete their registration. Stroma Certification are offering regular courses across North and South Wales to help individuals and companies to achieve compliance.
