Stroma Certification’s UKAS accredited Competent Person Scheme (CPS) allows installers from major UK trades to self-certify their installation work in line with the Building Regulations. Homeowners and customers have immediate confidence that all installation work undertaken is compliant. CPS Certification also saves our certified installers money by avoiding costly Building Control notification fees.
Our Competent Person Scheme is DCLG approved and accredited by UKAS in line with ISO 17065:2012.
Annual membership £240+VAT. Online notification fee £1.50
Includes membership for up to 10 operatives & assessment of 2 operatives; £50 for each additional operative assessment. Postal notifications are available at £2.50 per measure for CPS.
Competent Person Schemes provide certification to installers across many different building trades allowing them to self-certify their work. UKAS (the United Kingdom Accreditation Service) allows accredited organisations, such as Stroma Certification, to run a CPS for different types of installation work or measures.
The advantage to being a certified Competent Person is the opportunity to save money. Instead of paying costly fees for Building Control approved, CPS installers self-certify their installations – which can also pass on savings to a customer or homeowner.
A Competent Person certification is awarded to the business, not to an individual installer. Approval is gained through an independent audit of company procedures against Building Regulation requirements, followed by examination of a relevant recent installation.
Certification via an accredited Competent Person Scheme can both save you money and increase customer confidence in your work. In 2012, DCLG released a report suggesting that installers could save an average of £241 in Building Control fees through self-notifying installation work. Allied to this financial benefit is providing further assurance to your customer that you are competent and skilled enough to offer compliant installation work.
Stroma Certification is an award-winning certification provider to installers and we are committed to low cost, high value CPS certification.

All notifications for CPS are completed through our online Installer Portal – a web portal created for all our installer members. Once work has been notified, a certificate of works will be printed and posted to your client based on the details provided to us. In the event incorrect details are provided the member will be asked to re-notify and incur an additional notification fee. The certificate will be posted 7 days after the notification is made and once Building Control have been notified.
CPS certification covers the installation, not the design. A CPS notification confirms that the work conforms to all Building regulation requirements (from Part A to P).
The assessment procedure for our Competent Person Scheme includes an office assessment and on site assessment. The office assessment includes a review of your company’s policies and procedures, whilst the on site assessment will involve our assessor checking a relevant installation.
