Legionella Risk Assessment Training

Legionella Risk Assessment training is an ABBE Level 2 Award in Awareness of Legionella. It offers applicants an introduction to the Health & Safety legislation concerning legionella and how this relates to domestic property assessments. Stroma Certification's Legionella trainers provide both theoretical and practical legionella guidance to assist property professionals in carrying out their work safely.

Who should attend?

Legionella Risk Assessment training is a vital course for any professional working in the property assessment or private rental sector. Energy Assessors have the opportunity to offer additional services beyond core energy assessment activity, so you can differentiate your business from your competitors. By completing the course you will achieve an ABBE Level 2 Award in Awareness of Legionella.

Explaining Legionella Legislation

Legionnaires' disease is a serious strain of the pneumonia virus caused by inhaling legionella-contaminated water droplets. Legionella can be present in man-made hot and cold water systems, including those found in domestic properties. There are numerous pieces of UK legislation (including the Health & Safety at Work Act, The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations and the L8 Approved Code of Practice) which govern the control of legionella risks.

There is a requirement for property owners (e.g. landlords, property agents) to assess and control legionella risk within domestic premises. Reducing the risk of exposure involves an assessment of the property's water system by a qualified Legionella Risk Assessor.

Course Content

The ABBE Level 2 Award in Awareness of Legionella will help delegates to improve your inventory competence in the provision of domestic property assessment services:

  • Know the health risks associated with legionella bacteria
  • Understand how legislation and Codes of Practice can support the management of legionella bacteria
  • Understand how to minimise the risks of legionella bacteria
  • Understand control methods used to reduce risk of infection from legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems

In addition, this course will offer guidance on the assessment methodology for completing simple Legionella Risk Assessments.
